Lockdown boogie-woogie // 2020

Digital print on cotton

An illustrated textile design that tells the stories of a city in lockdown, through the theatre of balconies and rooftops. During the coronavirus quarantine I observed my neighbors in their balconies, and documented with sketches everyday occurrences, rituals, and activities, and gathered stories from people in other towns about their own neighbors. These stories were developed into plots, characters and plays which make up the final fabric design. The final design was printed digitally on cotton and sewn into a Japanese "Noren" curtain, symbolizing the entryway curtain of the great building in the sky that is the new global town of "Quarantine".
